Preparation
- Brown the brisket in batches until golden.
- Remove the beef and set aside. In the same pot, sauté ginger, garlic, and onion until fragrant.
- Return the beef to the pot, add soy sauce, water, brown sugar, and star anise.
- Bring everything to a boil, then reduce heat and allow to simmer for 1.5 to 2 hours or until beef is tender.
- Check seasoning and add potatoes if needed to balance sweetness or saltiness.
Serving
- Serve the saucy beef over a pile of fried garlic rice.
- Drizzle with beef broth and sprinkle with chopped spring onions and toasted garlic.
Notes
Leftovers taste even better the next day. Store in a sealed container in the fridge and reheat gently.
